So Sweet with JustNick

Happy Monday (Is that a thing?) friends!
It's Jen today continuing February's love theme using the Love Background cut file and Crate Paper's Main Squeeze Collection.
Using white card stock, I cut the Love Background file and painted it using watercolors - the same colors were used on the background paper as well.

With the background in place, I adhered the photo with it's patterned-paper backing using foam squares.
Embellishments were next and I used a mix of die cuts, stickers, and chipboard to give the layout a whimsical feel.
My final step was enamel dots - my embellishment staple - in a visual triangle on the project.
I love the cute factor of the finished project, which matches this sweet photo of my girls.
Thanks for stopping by today! Be sure to visit the Just Nick Shop for this and loads of other fabulous cut files!

Three Times the Love with JustNick

Hello! It is crazy that we are already welcoming February and since Valentine's Day is just over a week away, I decided to create a project using the fabulous Loads of Love file from the JustNick shop.
For the base, I used a mint green patterned paper from the Dear Lizzy Lovely Day collection that I painted with white gesso. Once that dried, I splattered it with various watercolors that match the colors in the rest of the layout.
After cutting out the Loads of Love on white card stock, I backed each letter with a different patterned paper from the Dear Lizzy Star Gazer collection.
My black and white photo was cut down to fit behind the "O" in the largest part of the cut file.
I kept this layout very simple and only added a few die cuts around the photo and at the top of the page along with chipboard stars in a visual triangle above and below the cut file.

This is a great project to try when you are pressed for time - I was able to complete it in just over an hour one evening after work.
Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful day!

You & Me with JustNick

Hello friends!
Valentine's Day is just around the corner and JustNick has loads of wonderful cut files for your projects. However, today I am sharing a non-Valentine themed project using the new Heart Cluster file.
The project began with my duplicating the file in several sizes and cascading it down the page. I cut it on white card stock, backed it with a floral-patterned paper (Paige Evans' Turn the Page collection), and splattered it with ink.
I continued with the same file and used the offset feature on my Silhouette to create the next set of hearts. Once this was cut, I used several of the patterned papers and backed the heart clusters in a rainbow-like color scheme. This piece was adhered to the white card stock over the previously cut hearts with foam squares.
My photo was next and it was backed with patterned paper and placed on top of the hearts. Since the layout was already very bright, I printed the photo in black and white.
Embellishments were next and I clustered several of the floral die cuts from the same Paige Evans collection around the photo. I placed my title next and also added some bunches of white thread for more texture.
I journaled a bit below the photo and placed puffy flower stickers and enamel dots on the page.
At the last minute, I added the gold washi tape down the left side to anchor everything.
Thank you for visiting today and I hope you are inspired to create! Be sure to visit the JustNick shop for this and many other files for your projects.

Cool Dude with JustNick

Happy 2018! I hope everyone had a great holiday and that the new year is off to a fantastic start!
Today I'm going back to my love of mixed media with a fun boy-themed layout using the Doodle Frames and All Boy cut files from JustNick.
This project began with a photo of my son from 2004 when he was just three years old. When I showed my husband the picture, he suggested I get a current shot and use both. It is so funny because after 14 years he still has the same smirk and I was able to capture it perfectly.
One of my goals for 2018 is to destash my stash - I have so many wonderful collections of papers and embellishments that need to be used - so I pulled out the Crate Paper Cool Kid collection for this project.
First, I used molding paste and gesso with a paint brush and applied them both to the black and white patterned paper. Once that was dry I splattered it with blue, orange, and yellow watercolor paints because I knew I would be using those three colors.
The yellow frame was created using the Doodle Frames file with the sketch and cut feature on the Silhouette. I used white card stock and a black sketch pen to create the frame and then painted it with the same yellow watercolor from the paint splatters. I used foam squares to adhere the frame so it pops off the page. The photos were then placed using my ATG for the left picture and more foam squares for the one on the right. I love giving my pages lots of dimension.
Next are the title and stars, which were cut using the All Boy file. These were again cut using white card stock and then painted with the orange and blue watercolors from the background. These were adhered with a combination of glue and foam squares depending on where they fell on the layout.
The stars were clustered around both photos with numbers pulled from the embellishments in the CP collection to indicate Caleb's age at the time the pictures were taken.
I added a few more embellishments above and below the title as well as the hand-written dates. This is one of my favorite projects in a while and I hope you are inspired to create today.

Snow Day with JustNick Studio

Hey everyone! I hope you are all gearing up for a lovely holiday season with family and friends. I can hardly believe we are two days away from Christmas and almost to the end of 2017!
Today I am sharing a layout using the beautiful new Snowflakes 2 file along with the Snowflake Background file from the JustNick shop.
It seems my scrappy mojo has left the building these past few weeks, so I have really been struggling with creating projects lately. For this layout, I decided to keep it simple and just go with whatever came to mind without overthinking it.
To make things easy, I stuck with one collection (Crate Paper Snow and Cocoa) and limited myself to snowflake cut files.
To begin, I cut the patterned paper down to 8 1/2 x 11 and placed a second piece along the bottom third. Next, I used white card stock and the Snowflake Background file as the base under my photo. I then layered gold die cuts from the collection along with pink snowflakes cut using the Snowflakes 2 file.
Next, I adhered the photo with foam squares that I doubled in thickness on top of more die cuts from the collection.
The "snowday" sentiment, snowflake, and flag were added to the right side of the photo to anchor everything and a few puffy stickers were placed around the cluster. Last, I added a few drops of black ink for dimension.
Again, this is a layout I put together in hopes of getting my creativity kick started since it has seemingly disappeared. Sometimes the only way to get it going again is to simply make something whether you love it or hate it.
Remember that these and many other wonderful cut files are available in the JustNick shop!!
Have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year!

Hostess Cards with Scrapbook Circle

Hello  friends! I hope you are enjoying the long Thanksgiving weekend (in the U.S.) and taking advantage of those Black Friday deals! Today I am sharing a couple of cards I made using the Today I Am Thankful printable bundle available in the Scrapbook Circle shop.

The versatility of the bundles makes them so fun to have on hand. They complement the goodies I have in my stash and make it easy to quickly put together hostess cards such as these.

This card uses strips of paper left over from my gratitude journal along with a doily, puffy heart sticker, and gold paint that I had on hand.

The colors are vibrant and perfect for autumn projects. This wreath was made by punching circles out of scraps and combining them with sequins and paint. I finished it off with the chipboard leaves and sentiment from the bundle and added a gold bow from my stash.

Be sure to grab the Today I Am Grateful bundle from the shop and enjoy the endless project possibilities at your fingertips!!

So Very Thankful for You with JustNick Studio

Hello friends! It is almost Thanksgiving in the U.S., and the team is featuring projects about thankfulness this week. It is a rare occasion when my son will allow me to take a picture with him. Not only am I thankful for him, but I'm equally thankful for this picture of us that was taken during our vacation to Disneyland in June.
To create this 8 1/2 x 11 project, I used the Card Sentiments 3 and the Hearts 2 files from the JustNick shop along with the Elle's Studio Family Fun collection.
I began by cutting the sentiment using wood grain and blue patterned papers. I layered several more patterned papers behind my photo and adhered them all to the white card stock. The sentiment cascades from the top of the paper to the bottom with the photo falling between. I used a bit of Tombow Mono glue and followed that with machine stitching to add texture.
With the sentiment in place, I used the Hearts 2 file to create a border along the bottom of the photo. This was also sewn in place for added texture.
Next, I sewed several strips of paper to the top and bottom of the project to anchor everything.
To complete my layout, I used die cuts, puffy stickers, and acrylic shapes from Elle's studio in addition to black Nuvo Crystal Drops.
